Q... What type of Vinyl materials do you use?
A... We use top of the line products made by Duratech, Kroy, Homeland Vinyl and Peak
Profiles. All of our materials are manufactured in the United States and
are covered by a lifetime warranty. Our materials are Superior in
quality and are guaranteed not to Fade, Blister, Peel, or Crack.
Q... What is the warranty on a Vinyl fence?
Manufacturer...The warranty on the fence is a Limited Lifetime
Warranty. What this means, is that as long as you are the owner of the
property, the fence will be under warranty for the life of the fence.
Once you move and a new owner takes possession, the next owner can pay a
one time transfer fee of $100.00 and resume the warranty under their
name.
Installation...
Zion Fence warrants to the original purchaser/homeowner that its vinyl
fence will be free from any defects resulting from improper installation
for as long as you own the home. This warranty does not apply to or
provide protection against any misuses, abuse, fire, earthquake, flood,
lightning, hail, ice, hurricane or tornado. This warranty also does not
include settling of the ground, damage caused by vehicles or children
such as baseballs or rocks.
Q... When does the warranty take effect?
A... From the moment Zion Fence completes your fence the warranty is in
place. Zion Fence will notify the manufacturer that your fence has been
installed and within 8-12 weeks you should receive your registered
warranty information in the mail. During summer months this time can
possibly take longer, but rest assured that your fence is covered.
Q... What is the warranty on a Cedar fence?
A... To
keep your wood fence looking good, it is important that it is properly cared
for. Apply a high quality stain/sealant preferably soon after installation
(after the wood has had ample time to dry). Use a product that has both a U.V.
protectant for damage from the sun as well as a water repellant.
Generally, a sealant with a pigment (as opposed to a clear sealant) will last
longer. We recommend that you apply a sealant annually the first two years to
provide adequate protection, and then apply as needed thereafter as needed
(probably every 3-5 years).
Adjust sprinkler heads so they do not hit the fence directly, as this will
cause hard water stains to appear on the fence. If staining does occur or if
the fence becomes discolored or grey for any reason, a high pressure washer
with 3000 psi can be used to clean the fence. This will leave the fence looking
new and ready for staining/sealing.
Because cedar is a natural product, it does not carry a material warranty. However
a properly installed and maintained cedar fence can last 15+ years.
Q... We recently had a quote done by Zion Fence. How long is it good for?
A... Quotes given by Zion Fence are guaranteed for one year. We like to
give our customers all the time they need to make decisions. Some of our
competitors will lead you to believe that if you don't hurry up and
decide today the prices will be higher tomorrow. In their case, that may
be true, but rest assured you have plenty of time to think about your
financial investment with Zion Fence.
Q... We are thinking about putting in sprinklers before having a fence installed. Will this cause a problem?
A... No, but make sure that you put all pipes at least 2' away from the
property lines.
Q... We are going to have top soil delivered; will it be in the way?
A... This is a great question. In fact, any obstacle within 3' will need
to be moved by the homeowner unless Zion Fence deems it out of the way.
Q... How do I determine my property lines?
A... Usually, there is a peg driven into the curbing on either side of
your home. Sometimes, when there is no peg there will be a line of
spray paint with lot numbers on either side instead. On the back yard,
there is usually a 2' piece of rebar sticking out of the ground with an orange cap on top. Other times, home builders use a wood stake
with an orange ribbon attached. It is also possible to have a green
t-post signifying your property line.
Q... If those visual markers are not there, how do I determine my property line?
A... Zion Fence is not responsible for property lines that are not
marked or misplaced. You will need to call your homebuilder to have them
come out and mark it again or call the City to which you live and get a
surveyor out to mark it for you. In some cases you can get a plot map from your city and using 1 existing property marker you can determine the other side.
Q... What is a J Metal?
A... A "J" Metal or "Metal Rail Stiffener" is a steel reinforcement that runs the length of the bottom rail in vinyl panels longer than 50". We use them on Duratech, Homeland and Kroy. We also install J Metal in Peak Profiles 1.5" x 8" deco rail in panels
over 88".
Q... What is a U channel?
A... A "U" channel is a 1" piece of vinyl that is attached to the post
and hides the ends of the slats. We can install U channels on any color vinyl but only Adobe colored panels require them.
Q... What does "dry bag" mean?
A... Dry bagging is when you mix the concrete in the hole. Our
competitors will lead you to believe we just dump the concrete, poor
some water and walk away hoping it will mix correctly. However, to put
that lie to rest, we mix the concrete thoroughly and it is rated at over
4000 PSI. What is most important is not whether the concrete is mixed
in a rotary mixer, a wheelbarrow or in the hole but how much concrete is
supporting the posts. We use a 10" diameter hole while our competitors
use a 8" diameter hole. On gate posts, we set our hinge post (The post
that supports the weight) 28" in the ground rather than 24". Using just a
2" wider hole allows us to put 0.06 cubic yards of concrete in every
24" deep hole to our competitors 0.04 cubic yard. On our gate posts we
use 0.08 cubic yards of concrete to our competitors 0.04 cubic yard.
Q... Why do you put concrete inside the posts?
A... When it rains or sprinklers hit the fence, the water will hit the panels and run down into the bottom rail. They will then follow the grade of the ground and fill each of the posts up with water continuing until all the posts are full. Without concrete inside the vinyl posts the ground under the post gets muddy. Combine the mud with the weight of the water in the post and the post will eventually settle. You also have to consider the weight of the panel. Some companies use a "seepage hole". This is a 3" diameter hole placed 5" from the bottom of the post. Now hypothetically saying that the seepage hole works exactly as they hope... you are still only getting concrete in the bottom 5" of the post. We use 16" - 24" of concrete inside the post depending on the ground conditions and what type of post it is I.E. Gate vs Line post.
Q... How do you get the concrete inside the post?
A... We dump the concrete through the top of the post. Sometimes we can pour it through the bottom rail hole.
Q... There is spray paint on my grass that is Orange, Red and Yellow, what does this mean?
A... Before you, Zion Fence, or anyone digs in your yard, Blue Stakes
should be called. Blue Stakes is a free service and will mark where the
underground utilities are located. Orange is a phone line, Red is a
power line and Yellow is a gas line. Zion Fence will call Blue Stakes
for you before starting your fence. If you are planning on doing any work in your yard however without Zion Fence, call Blue Stakes at 1-800-662-4111 or dial 811.
Q... How come some of my neighbor's gates have the hinges on the outside and others have the hinges on the inside?
A... The answer to this question is that whichever side the hinges are
on the gate will swing. Some gates will need to have the hinges on the
outside such as double drive gates. The reason being is that if you are
to pull in a trailer or a boat etc... then you will not be able to close
the gates.
Q... My neighbor wants to pay for their portion of the fence, can they pay you directly?
A... As of now, the answer is No. You are responsible to pay the amount
on your contract to Zion Fence and your neighbor will need to pay you.
However, Zion Fence will tell you how much your neighbors portions will
cost if you ask.
Q... There is a gap underneath some parts of my fence, why is this?
A... A fence only looks good when it is installed right. This means
that it should have a straight line across the top from section to
section and not look like a mountain top. The reason there is a gap is
that the grading of the yard is imperfect.
Q... There is some black marks on my vinyl, what is it and how do I get it off?
A... Usually, there will be some dirt or residual saw dust. This is
caused by static electricity from cutting the materials and thus
attracts dust and dirt. You can easily remove this with a garden hose or
just let the next rain clean it for you. If you have a mark that cannot
be removed with just water, use a lacquer or soap and water. Make sure
to test in a non conspicuous location to make sure it will not
deteriorate the material or cause fading.
Q... Do you have financing available?
A... Yes, rather than provide In-House financing with exorbitant
interest rates, we have established a partnership with America First
Credit Union. Every spring we shop interest rates around and each year they are on top. You can use any bank you want however if you feel their service fits your needs best.
Q... What is your turn around time?
A... Depeding on the time of year we could be as little as 3 days out.
During our peak season (Spring - Fall) we try to be less than 2-6 weeks
out. Call for our current start times.
Q... How far apart are your posts?
A... We typically install posts between 72" - 84 " O.C.(Meaning On Center or from center of post to center of post). For Cedar fencing and Ornamental Iron we are closer to 96" O.C.
